I went there in 2006, late October, i didn't have any problem with the camp site. Many people were doing sole. Make sure you bring LOTS of water.

I am doing the hike 8/6/08 - 8/10/08 with my girlfriend. Just wondering how safe the campground is? I have read some stuff that doesn't sound too inviting on the internet. I was there in 1993 and had no problems. Great site!!

Scott, in the summer, temperatures can be pretty nasty. It can be done, but prepare as if you were hiking the floor of the Grand Canyon -- cause you basically are. *Lots* of water, salty snacks, and rest breaks. I've heard it's also beautiful hiking the area in the fall. Water flow is a bit lighter, but there are trees in the canyon that have brilliant yellow foliage, which adds to the already rich color pallete down there.

What a great account you put together here. The bighorn by the river shot is amazing!

Can this be done in summer or is it best as a spring/fall trip?

amazing pictures! these I seriously some of the best pictures I've seen on a hiking website. The water looks so blue and clear and the waterfall is spectacular. I've only been to lake Havasu, but the next time I'm in Arizon, I'm definitely doing this trail.

Excellent write up on the hike. Awesome photos and videos. Love it! I'm planning to do this hike sometime in the fall when it gets nice and cool again. By the way, love your blog and the website links on your links page. Also, have you hiked in Orange County? Do you know if there is a blog out there for Orange County hikes? Thanks!
