Bread for Brains

by Modern Hiker on December 15, 2008

nullAccording to a new study from Tufts University, eating a low-carb diet — which gurus tell us is health-conscious nowadays — can inhibit and impair your brain’s ability to perform memory tests.

Tufts researchers provided memory tests to two groups — one who ate a diet mainly of protein and fats, the other a more carb-centric one. The carb munchers consistently outperformed their pro-Atkins counterparts — but the protein crew found their memory levels increased shortly after eating some carbs of their own.

So keep eating that pre-hike granola and oatmeal if you don’t want to get lost trying to find your way back to the car!
