While we were all enjoying the rare-treat thunderstorms yesterday, a few errant lighting strikes did spark some backcountry fires in the Angeles National Forest.
As of now, there are 16 small fires burning, 12 of which are fully contained.
It appears the most stubborn blaze is located near Twin Peaks, which is just next to the Mount Waterman trail I’ve covered. Helicopters are supporting ground crews, who have to hike in a few miles with their firefighting equipment.
If you’re planning on heading into the Angeles this weekend, be sure to check this frequently-updated page on the incidents. Chances are, you’ll probably be fine — but if there’s a wildfire burning near the trail you were planning on hiking, you might want to find another route.
