Civilian Conservation Corps Anniversary At San Jacinto

by Modern Hiker on June 10, 2009

This Saturday, commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Civilian Conservation Corps‘ work at Mount San Jacinto State Park in a day-long celebration including guest speakers, displays of historic architecture and stonework, a spike-camp demonstration, and rare film footage of the CCC crews at work in the forest.

The night will conclude with a campfire tribute to the Corps, complete with hot chocolate and cider.

The activities begin at the State Park at 10AM in Idyllwild. If you can, try to snag a camp site and tackle one of the local peaks to make a full weekend out of it!

Just noticed your blog post. Small world, because my fiance, our families, and I were there camping this weekend. We saw the CCC celebration, but didn’t attend… had a couple hikes planned for the kids that day.

The Idyllwild/MSJSP campground is beautiful. Our first time staying there, but it won’t be our last.
