L.A. River Photos

by Modern Hiker on June 15, 2009

Photographer / Programmer Dave Bullock has not been taking our recent, hopefully-ending-just-now stretch of June Gloom lying down.

Instead, he’s taken it upon himself to explore and photograph the more vacant, industrial sections of Los Angeles … which include some great shots of the Los Angeles River — both with and without some visiting birds.

It’s different from the nature photography I usually like to show off, but they’re interesting photos of a little-seen part of L.A. — and one that will hopefully soon be freed from its concrete boundaries.

Thanks for the link! I’m going to start lugging my camera / tripod with me on hikes. Planning on doing Cactus to Clouds again soon!

Hi. I’m glad to see some posts regarding the resurrection of the LA River! I am in Long Beach where you can go from ‘concrete’ waterway to tree-lined river and the contrast is stark…just last week, I was in awe of the 100′s of birds and nesting areas where Willow Ave. intersects the river…must have been a dozen or more species in that one area! It is a bird watcher’s haven! I have a growing birdlist is on my website as well.

Just imagine what the river would have looked like if it wasn’t surrounded by concrete. Sigh.
