Anyone who hikes near the Angeles Crest Highway has had the experience of having their otherwise quiet day interrupted by one of the dozens of motorcycles with amplified exhaust pipes that come blazing down the road.
Irritating, yes, but usually after the first few that whiz by, I can tune them out. I doubt, however, I could tune something like this out – a Scion equipped with the foghorn from a freakin’ destroyer.

This video was shot in the mid-high country of the Angeles National Forest, and I have to ask if anyone’s ever heard it. Because, while I respect the geekery involved in installing a World War II-era piece of naval equipment in a modern automobile, it certainly doesn’t belong anywhere near a National Forest, let alone in an area that’s so close to Wilderness areas.
But maybe we don’t have it so bad with the motorcycle noise, huh?

I’ll be honest….I don’t really understand the desire/appeal to do this at all (let alone the motorcycles)…If anyone could explain, I’d appreciate it. haha
You should be out there when the Space Shuttle comes down. That’s a treat.
I can’t say I’ve ever heard that horn in the mountain, but last weekend in the Santa Monica Mountains, a Red Baron-esque plane buzzed the tops of the trees, flying through the canyons. Must have been fun for the pilot, but not so much for hikers.
What an ass. I’d like to strap the guy’s head in there and really let him have a piece of it. Can you imagine the effect this has on the wildlife–let alone the hikers!
