Most of the closed area is my usual-ANF stomping ground, which I miss a lot - but you're right - on the plus side, at least we'll get to explore some lesser-traveled areas! I'm hoping that, given the generally cooler pattern this year, we won't see a flare up of the Santa Anas anytime soon. If the winter turns out to be an El Nino year as well, that would be icing on the cake. From what I've read from the ANF, they don't want to re-open the western part of teh forest until after the winter rains, then start stabilization at that point. Looks like it's time for me to start exploring more of the section above Santa Clarita! I’ve read about this kind of thing before.
