On Friday, a freak rainstorm dumped 1-2 inches of rain in the foothills of the Angeles National Forest, offering up a preview of what will most likely be a much more common scene this rainy season – mudslides.
According to the LA Times blog, a few streets were closed and some messes were made, but overall damages were very small.
Still, this is a reminder of the fragile state the Angeles National Forest is in right now – and why it’s still off limits. Were any foothill residents caught in the mud? It barely drizzled in my neck of the woods, so I didn’t even know we got rain until I read about it!

Besides the K rails… it’d be nice if they could hurry and plant things strategically, so that the plant roots can help support the ground when it rains… I think it’d be a matter of just getting through those few streaks of rain that LA has… though I know that plants can’t grow THAT quickly.
Up here in La Crescenta (north of Glendale), the Station fire burned right up to the backyards of homes, and Deukmejian Wilderness Park (a great trailhead) was backburned. For about half an hour on Thursday night the rain was absolutely torrential. Streets stayed pretty clean but I’m sure we’re going to get some sizeable chunks running down our hilly streets.
