Time-Lapse Northern Lights

by Modern Hiker on November 17, 2009

If you couldn’t make it out to somewhere dark last night, but still wanted to see some cosmic phenomena, worry not – National Geographic has you covered. The Goat dug up this hypnotic video of a time-lapse of the Northern Lights in Norway, and it’ll make you want to book the next flight to the arctic circle to try to see them for yourself.

Wow! Very cool!
I so love our Northern Lights. Couldn’t count the hours and nights I’ve wandered out just to gaze up and enjoy their mystery…

Very nice indeed. I have always wanted to see it in person. Unfortunately living in Texas doesn’t afford me that opportunity to often. I remember my Astronomy professor told me once about a large Geomagnetic storm that hit the earth in 1989. The storm bombarded the earth with so many particles that the auroras could be seen in Texas. Consequently the storm also caused most of Quebec to lose power. Still would have been cool.

Agreed! Seeing the Northern Lights in person is definitely on my Life List. Someday I’ll get far enough north to have that chance …
