Based on the responses on Twitter and Facebook, it seems like a lot of people got outside this weekend to enjoy our incredible weather.
I met up with Kolby and Team WWED? at Sandstone Peak, and it was well worth the drive – the skies were clear and water was everywhere. Thankfully, my boots held up to their waterproof claims, and we were treated to a wet winter wonderland in the Santa Monica Mountains.
The views were incredible, and water was everywhere — from the cracks in the ridge below Balance Rock …
… to the usually dry creeks and the trails themselves!
We had a few clouds roll in toward the end of the hike – making me thankful I’d packed a bunch of layers with me – but the views were still unbelievable.

And more importantly, where did you go this weekend?

Beautiful Sandstone photos. Zach B and I went to Runyan Canyon around 7:30am on Sat. It was beautiful but very bright and sunny, the city looked so gray and industrial it was very post apocalyptic looking. Next time I’ll go for the sunset hike after the rain to get better photos of the mountains. Check out my pics. http://www.tristathompsonblog.com/?p=305

We went up to Los Liones – just breathtaking. The snow on the mountains changes all perceptions of the horizon.
Sandstone looks stunning!
Thanks for posting and for the list of post storm hikes -
Great shots!!!
I know several folks who were definitely inspired by your post (and the LAist post about your post) and hit the trail. Well done!
Looks like a great hike! Stunning views all around. It’s great to see so much green.
I went to Oakzanita Peak (Peak #27) in Rancho Cuyamaca State Park with Robb (SoCalPeakbagger) and hiked in virgin snow the whole way.
One of my favorite hikes so far!

Excellent posting on our adventure, Casey. I couldn’t have said it better myself. Proof of that is in my own post on the hike:

I look forward to our next expedition!

My brother and I hiked Devli’s Chair yesterday, which I had been wanting to do since reading your review. The entire trail was covered in snow…and at some points it got pretty deep. Needless to say my shoes were soaked after the 7.4 miles but I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks for all the great reviews!
I went to Baldwin Hills to drink in the city views, as I’m nursing a busted foot and longer-distances are pretty much off the table for a few weeks. But the next time you go hiking with cute girls, I’m totally there. (Hey, I’m the “single” GeekHiker, so it had to be said. ;) )
