Sierra Club Covers L.A. Mountains

by Modern Hiker on April 29, 2010

R0012183 I just stumbled across this feature article on the Sierra Club’s web site and had to share it – former L.A. Times columnist Brendan Buhler has written a fantastic piece on L.A.’s relationship with the Angeles National Forest.

In the article, he touches upon the area’s human and natural history, highlighting some of the unique issues that face our little backyard mountain getaway and its proximity to millions of wilderness-starved Angelenos. He also gives an update on the attempt to win greater federal protection for the area, as well.

It’s well worth the read, and will probably inspire you to try to visit the half of the Forest that’s still open!

Great article. If anyone is interested in history of the San Gabriels, you should check out John Robinson’s books, like “The San Gabriels”.
