If you want your next Netflix movie to teach you about an environmentalist legend and feature some incredible archival footage of the American West from the 30′s, you’ll be happy to know that the 2005 documentary Monumental: David Brower’s Fight for Wild America has just been added to is on Instant Netflix.

Brower was a leading mountaineer of his time who went on to become one of the most important figures in the environmental movement, helping to found several organizations like the Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters. This documentary follows Brower’s life as he fought to help pass the 1964 Wilderness Act and save the Grand Canyon from industrial mining.

    Thanx for posting this. I’m one of those people mentioned in the beginning of the documentary who had no idea who David Brower was & what he accomplished throughout his life.

    John Muir founded the Sierra Club.

    Brower was instrumental in turning it from a hiking club into a nationally relevant environmental advocacy organization. He got the Sierra Club to take on the big fights to keep dams out of Dinosaur National Monument and Grand Canyon National Park, albeit at the cost of trading Glen Canyon.
